Essex results as promised. Birtley athletes contributed significantly to the Durham squad's haul of medals at the National DABGC cross country championships last weekend. Under 11 girls up first over 2000m and it was no surprise to see Poppie Phillipson finishing in first place (8.24) ahead of team mate Izzy Hall (8.38). With 4 to count they led the team home to gold medals. Under 13 boys up next (3500m ) and with Ed Moon suffering from a bout of stomach cramp just before the start he bravely fought on to complete the course finishing in 7th place (19.00). The under 13 girls were next up again over 3500m and proved again their strength in depth occupying the first four places to take team gold. In first place Nell Graham (16.00) 2nd Kitty Graham (16.09) 3rd Niamh Phillipson (16.39) 4th Poppy Graham (18.46). Under 15 boys over 5000m saw Callum Bailey lead from start to finish (19.27) and also take team gold. The final race over 6.500m saw our under 17 athlete Martin Rahman who also lead from start to finish completing in (24.29) and taking a team gold. Excellent performances all round and congratulations to you all!
Despite a frozen course (and freezing weather), Birtley athletes represented the club well at the North Eastern Championships. Under 11 girls Poppie Phillipson and Izzy Hall led the pack with gold and silver, whilst under 13 girls Olivia Murphy, Nell & Kitty Graham continued their winning streak with gold, silver and bronze + team gold. Special mention to Adrian Bailes with a fantastic fourth place finish in a very competitive field (this coming shortly after his third place finish in the Carlisle-Brampton 10 mile in an impressive 49:42, a massive PB). Full results can be seen HERE As this race is the club XC championship race, the following athletes are now club champions for the year:-
