Now that the Cross Country season is well and truly over, I think there’s a small squad of Team Birtley athletes, who have raced over the country this season in both Harrier League and Championship events, and deserve a shout-out:- Ollie Maw U11 Boys Florence Gray U11 Girls Lloyd Jones U15 Boys Izzy Hall U15 Girls Ceinwen Bishop U15 Girls Poppie Phillipson U15 Girls Olivia Murphy U15 Girls Niamh Phillipson U17 Girls Ollie King U17 Boys Daisy Graham U20 Women Ten young athletes, four of them did all three championships. Their achievements have been well documented throughout the winter. Putting their toe on the line, representing your Club, and making progress throughout the season. Looking forward to seeing them and a few more others, on the track and field over the summer, and again into next XC season. Tommy Millmore

Chris Perkins made a brilliant first outing in his England vest at the SIAB (Schools' International Athletic Board) XC International in Dublin, romping home in third place to help bring the England team to victory. Chris, who is still not back to 100% fitness after a viral infection last week, is showing a lot of promise, and it seems likely that this won't be his last outing in an England vest!
This weekend was a big one for Birtley athletes, with many of them competing at the Northern XC Championships at Pontefract, and for some of them it was their first big champs. Although they didn't bring back any silverware this time, there were still some cracking performances, notably from Chris Perkins (5th u15 boy) and Kate Waugh (4th u17 woman) - well done to all that took part! Results here, and photos by Karen Harland are available on her Flickr page. Some of the Birtley crew can be seen above in this pic from Nick Newby.
Meanwhile, it was also a big weekend for Molly Elliott, who was competing in an indoor competition in Sweden - she came away with a shiny new PB of 3.52, congratulations Molly! For those of you who have FB, here's a video of her performance by her coach Chris Boundy.
Now that it's finally been made public, a big shout out for Lydia Turner who has been selected to represent Great Britain in the European Cross Country Championships on the 9th December at Tiburg, Netherlands.
This will be her 5th vest, the other 4 were as a junior and the last one being January 2015. What an emotional journey - a really proud day (Coach Tom Millmore) |
