A Belated Thanks to our GNR Volunteers

A thank you note from the organisers, to everyone who helped out on the day:-

​We are so sorry it has taken this long to send a note reflecting our huge gratitude for your support at the Great North Run - where does the time go? Having delivered the rest of the Great Run series we are now taking time to reflect. I find myself thinking where to start? Which is a nice change to the big question of this year which was where to finish?!
 
With the challenges we all faced during the pandemic, the year off may have given many of you a chance to review whether the time was right to hang up your volunteer bib, and watch the event unfold on the TV. However we have been overwhelmed by the continued support from our regular teams, as well as new individuals and organisations joining us this year.
 
We went into the weekend with a mix of excitement and nervousness, with a new start system, new course and new finish site. It was more change than we had had in 39 years! But if there is one thing we have proved in the last 18 months it is our ability to adapt to change.
 
Particular thanks go to you all for your patience and understanding, as roles may have been different, briefings may have been less detailed, and event day longer. One thing that clearly didn’t change was the level of enthusiasm that you all brought to the event, one of the key things that makes the North Run Great.
 
The feedback from runners has been fantastic. Many were delighted to have the chance to run at all. They particularly enjoyed being part of a special day celebrating the 40th staging by crossing the Tyne Bridge twice, taking in some of Newcastle’s iconic streets and finishing on the aptly named Great North Road!
 
I hope you had the chance to have a brew and watch the programme or highlights on the BBC iplayer (I did as I wrote this) and were justifiably proud of the part you played,
