Closing Date September 1st The Prudhoe Miners Race was once popular with members of the town’s working men’s clubs, but it eventually died out after the Second World War, only to be revived in 2012 to build on the legacy of the London Olympics and celebrate the town’s coal mining heritage. Now in its eighth year, the 2019 Prudhoe Miners Race is being organised by local running club, Prudhoe Plodders, sponsored by Essity and supported by Prudhoe Town Council. All monies raised will be reinvested into developing the club's coaching resources and equipment, and essentially going back into grassroots athletics. It is a 5 mile local heritage event on an undulating route, starting and finishing at Eastwoods Park, Prudhoe, NE42 5DT. This year’s brand new route takes in some of Prudhoe’s historical sites whilst avoiding the steep hill of previous years making it suitable for runners of all abilities. The club is also bringing the focus back to competitive, though inclusive, road racing. As well as the 5 mile Miners Race, there is a Junior (1.5k for U11s) and a Mini race (3k for U11-U17s) which, together with family entertainment at the park, promises to make this a great event for Prudhoe. Adults race starts at 09:00, juniors at 10:15 and minis at 10:45. Note we reserve the right to delay the start of the children's races if there are any unforeseen incidents in the adults race. The race will be chip-timed and all race finishers will receive a medal, technical t-shirt and goody bag. A park and ride service will be operational from Essity’s carpark and information on that, as well as other parking and detailed race information will be sent by email 2 weeks prior to the event.
